Dana Farr, PhD, BCN

My mission is to help clients to explore their life experience, to come to better know their true self, and to become empowered to enjoy their best possible quality of life.  Realizing and building upon inner strengths, learning and applying new skills, and courageously working through difficulties within the safety of a therapeutic relationship are all important to this process.

Working within a primarily psychodynamic framework, I treat clients in an integrative way using a variety of treatment methods in order to serve each client’s individual needs and personal goals.  Some seek a focused course of treatment targeting a specific problem area, while others are looking for help of a more generalized nature, perhaps related to relationships, work, identity, life transitions, trauma, depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms, problematic or self-defeating behaviors, and other psychological issues.

I believe that there are no clear lines of separation between the mind, the brain and the body.  Traumatic experiences, for example, are stored and manifested in the body and mind as well as the brain.  If talk therapy, self-help, or any other type of treatment is effective, it works because it is changing the brain, which manages emotions, behavior, and all bodily functions.

Clinical neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback using real-time EEG brain wave measurements, is a powerful treatment tool that is appropriate for some clients, in many cases helping them to achieve emotional self-regulation and symptom relief that had been previously difficult for them to achieve on their own or through other treatment methods.  Clinical neurofeedback, used carefully alongside traditional psychotherapy, can help with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, anxiety and panic disorder, sleep difficulties, headaches, chronic pain, and a variety of other problems.
